Purandaradasa had renounced everything – why would he invite just the wealth? The very first stanza of that song is mesmerizing! We think it’s to invite Lakshmi (dhana)…but the actual meaning is to invite the wealth of knowledge to our home (the body). So that leaves us with other option that our method of worshiping is wrong! And those who have always tried to seek the truth have made it clear that God is within us (meaning you are GOD – the “tatvamasi” concept) – we just need to try seeking his darshana there! Quite in line with a vachana by Basavanna – Something is there which is keeping everything intact. We have such a systematic cosmic existence (brahmanda) around us that it’s very difficult to say there is no creator/God. This could imply 2 things – either there is no God OR our worship is wrong!įirst one can’t be true. Man has been doing pooja since his stone age (that time it was only to stone and fire and when tools were available later, stones were carved in to beautiful statues) – but no God has ever come out of the photo or statue to grace anyone. If Lakshmi was to come to us by circulating her photo by email OR by singing “bhagyada lakshmi baramma” on every Friday OR by doing her pooja on every “amavasya” – then everyone would have become “Kubers” J.
